Danube Art Master 2008 competion invites students of 14 Danube countries
Creativity and inspiration are the ingredients for the "Danube Art Master 2008", the great international art competition for students in 14 Danube countries. The slogan is: "The Danube is a living space!". The competion is for kids and schools of all school types. For inspiration make a trip to the Danube: this way the kids can experience the riverine landscapes and look for materials for creating their piece of art: e.g. sand, stones, drift wood and plants.
"Through drawing, painting and molding students not only create art, but also design the future of the Danube river basin", explains Phil Weller, executive secretary of the International Commission of the Danube River (ICPDR). And this is the purpose for the competion. Through getting involved with the Danube, students learn to know its ecological, cultural and economic values and take an active part in the protection of this living space.
The competion will be offered in each of the 14 Danube countries. The respective winners will present their country in the international final round in autumn 2008. Last year the prize went to Hungary, to four children of an elementary school: for their impressing sculpture made of plants and branches.
The Danube Art Master is one of the many events and activities around the Danube Day, which is celebrated annually on June 29th.
